Peter Dugan | Head of Artist in Residence program:

“pianoSonoma’s Artist in Residence program is a one-of-a-kind experience that gives established and emerging artists a chance to explore their unique artistic voice as performers and educators.  We empower our ARs to bring whatever repertoire excites them to the concert stage, and then to present that programming in the most engaging way possible. From day one, ARs are welcomed into the pianoSonoma family, connecting with our participants during rehearsals, masterclasses, workshops, and meals. It’s a magical environment where artists can really grow through the exchange of knowledge, and by experimenting with new ways of teaching, communicating, and performing. And it all happens in a beautiful recital hall nestled in the heart of California wine country!”

 What our Artists are saying:

“Being at pianoSonoma with so many other like-minded artists who share the same joy and passion for music is an exceptional experience that I truly cherish.” –Anita Graef, cellist

“Thank you for a magical two weeks in Sonoma making music and new friends (and introducing me to the art of wine-making)!  This was by far the most special festival I’ve been to and every aspect was so finely put together.  I really appreciated how everyone at the festival came with a purpose and dedication.  It really revitalizes everything for me at a perfect time when I’m about to start my MM, so thank you for bringing me onboard and giving me this opportunity to learn so much in a short time. The mix between teaching, coaching chamber music, playing with the participants, and performing with the Artists in Residence was perfect in my opinion and I loved the structure and intimacy it allowed.  I see what you mean by ‘one big family.’ I would love to be a part of this again in the future.”–Angie Zhang, pianist

“pianoSonoma represents ideal music making in the 21st century. It is a forum for intense, analytical musical thought, held together by the sheer love of music and piano playing. The setting is picturesque, the organization flawless, and the concert venues divine. Never before have I had the pleasure of working with a group of musicians so rooted in the beauties of making music. Jessica and Michael are two of the most knowledgeable musicians I know, and there are no better teachers for these enthused pianists. Not only did the pianists grow to new heights during my time in Sonoma, but I as well grew as a teacher and collaborator. I was reminded why I decided to become a musician through the participants’ joy and humility. I will never forget this wonderful week, and all those who shared it with me. I have no doubt that great music has helped establish life-long friendships. I recommend pianoSonoma highly to any curious pianist, or any musician at all.” –Julian Schwarz, cellist
