DSC_3343The daily schedule at pianoSonoma’s Summer Festival seeks to attain the ideal balance between individual practice time, chamber music rehearsals, private instruction, and small-group performance opportunities.  Below is a sketch of what the daily schedule looks like for the festival. Please stay tuned for changes—details will be provided as they become available.

Opening Events, Sunday

3:00-5:00PM: Registration and check-in at the Tuscany Dormitories at Sonoma State University

6:00PM: Opening Reception Dinner at Prelude
This is an optional event for participants and guests at an additional per person fee. Consider bringing a sweater for the outdoor seating.

Daily Schedule, Monday-Friday

8:00AM: Practice rooms open for practice

9:00AM-12:15PM: Private lessons, guided rehearsals, and practice

12:15PM: Lunch
Participant lunches are included in tuition. Guests may be added for an additional fee.

1:15PM-2:45PM: Performance Class

Friday Evening Excursion

Weekday Schroeder Hall Concerts*

*Each participant will receive one complimentary ticket for each concert during his/her session. Additional tickets for guests may be purchased here.

Tuesday, July 25 at 5:30PM: WindRacer and Oceans Churning wine tasting followed by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms–and Bieber.

Thursday, July 27 at 5:30PM: WindRacer and Oceans Churning wine tasting followed by Periscope.

Tuesday, August 1 at 5:30PM: WindRacer and Oceans Churning wine tasting followed by The Masters.

Thursday, August 3 at 5:30PM: WindRacer and Oceans Churning wine tasting followed by At the End of the Rainbow.

Additions and Changes
  • On Fridays, the Final Participant Recital will take place at 1:15PM in Schroeder Hall.
  • We are delighted to welcome back Barbara and Ronald Shinn for our in-house performance classes with participants and Artists in Residence. Our public masterclasses on Wednesday, July 26 at 1:15PM will be led by father/son team Ronald and Michael Shinn.
  • On Wednesday, August 2, we will offer a Remote Lesson masterclass open to the public, a unique experience that allows our California-based participants to learn from a master teacher located in New York City, using Yamaha technology that connects pianos via the internet.
  • On Wednesdays, there will be an additional Performance Class from 3-4pm.

What To Expect

Private Lessons—Individual 45-minute instruction with pianoSonoma faculty and Artists in Residence (depending on availability) to work on repertoire in a one-on-one setting.

Guided Rehearsals—45-minute sessions with Artists in Residence to work on chamber music repertoire and ensemble skills.

Practice Time—45-minute scheduled blocks of time in assigned practice rooms for individual practice.

Performance Class—A unique space for participants, faculty, and artists to come together and share repertoire in a supportive environment. Faculty and Artists in Residence will briefly coach musicians following each performance.

Final Participant Recital—An end-of-the-week recital to celebrate the participants’ hard work for a small audience of invited guests.
