Calvin Hitchcock, 2015 Young Composer Winner


Calvin Hitchcock 2015 Young ComposerCalvin Hitchcock is a composer and pianist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is actively involved in both music and theatre, and he particularly enjoys writing incidental music for stage productions. Score credits include David Copperfield, Les Miserables, Act of Worship, and Doubt, for which he received a Certificate of Merit in Music Composition from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (2015). He is currently scoring two more shows for the Cedarville University Theatre Department’s 2015-2016 season. From 2012-2013, Calvin served as concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, he has won the PYPO concerto competition on both piano and violin, as well as the Student Conductor competition. In July 2014, the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble performed his piece Water: Phase II as part of The Saturday Light Brigade radio show. He will be joining the PNME as an intern for their 2015 season. Most recently, Calvin was selected as a participant in Denison University’s TUTTI 2015 Music Festival for his piece Rhapsody for Clarinet. He was also selected to attend the 2015 Charlotte New Music Festival Composers Workshop held in June. While there, he participated in the Dance Co-Lab and collaborated with choreographer Alexis Lucena and the Great Noise Ensemble. Calvin is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Music in Composition under Dr. Austin Jaquith at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio.
