2020 Artist Classes

Our Artists in Residence will be offering classes in a variety of subjects.

Kara and Peter Dugan | Songs of Schubert

Monday, July 20 from 2:00pm-2:45pm

We will explore some of Schubert’s Lieder, both from the perspective of a singer and from the viewpoint of the pianist. We will dive into the music’s phrase structure, analyze the poetry, identify text painting in the piano textures, and discuss how these clues can help us gain deeper insight into interpreting all of the music we play, especially Schubert.

Michael Dahlberg | Smart Practice

Wednesday, July 22 from 2:00pm-2:45pm

In this session, we will explore principles and strategies to make your solo practice time more productive and fun. Participants will be invited to try a few exercises in real time and will have a chance to share their favorite tips and tricks with the group.

Peter Dugan | Blues 101

Monday, July 27 from 2:00-2:45pm

Learn the basics–phrase structure, harmonic structure, and scale. By the end of this session, you will be able to improvise a 12-bar blues on your own or with friends.

Doori Na | Score Study

Wednesday, July 29 from 2:00-2:45pm

To play effective chamber music and to use rehearsal time efficiently, we must not only practice our individual parts but also take the time to study the full score. This class will examine what studying the score entails.
